As with all our other interactions, there are certain basic etiquette rules which, if you did not adhere to them, may cause that you are frowned upon or that other players may not enjoy playing with you that much.  But even more than that, you could upset the play totally and it may even result in you not being allowed to continue play – it is more than merely good table manners!

ACT IN TURN – One way to upset both the players and the dealer is to play out of turn.  This applies to all your actions.

SPLASHING THE POT – To bet, place the chips in front of you.  Do not throw the chips into the pot.  Throwing chips into the pot is called “splashing the pot”.  How will the dealer know how much you bet if you splash the pot?

DISCUSSING THE CARDS – You never ever give any indication that you may have folded the best hand.  You don’t discuss the cards or the possible hand combinations.  It is possible that your interference may influence the play of the game.  You don’t even discuss the hand with an opponent who has also folded.  Be respectful towards the other players – they may return the favour
