Sit over weakness in poker
It is always important to consider your place at the table. In formal tournaments this is not always an option and usually the table seatings are allocated according to some system. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you can choose your own seat and you know the players that you play with there is an important tip that you can keep in mind. This is something that you can apply especially in your home games, for example. The phrase “sit over weakness” basically refer to your seating in comparison with the other players. As you are well aware, money moves in a clockwise direction around the table. You will therefor have players to your right and players to your left. This refers more to the seating of the players throughout the entire game, with other words who will bet before you and who will bet behind you. If you are to the left of a player, you have position over them – except of course the Small Blind over the Dealer. So in this instancee, where you have position over the player to your left, you have a much better oppportunity than the rest of the players around thetable to judge the opponent to your right. When you have any say in this matter, for example in home games or online where you select your seat, try to position yourself to the left of the weaker player (or at least whom you suspect is weaker) - or as you would say in other words – “sit over him or her”. Now, you will be able to work a good strategy since you will be able to make an easier call on whether to fold, check, raise or re-raise the player after you’ve seen what they are up to. Keep raising them, attacking them, bluffing them. If you happen to get reraised by a player to your left, you can always back down gracefully. Chances are that they have spotted the weakness too and they are after the weaker player’s money. Don’t be over generous, but be flexible in letting them take you off the pot from time to time (i.e. fold when they make a raise even if you suspect that they may be bluffing). If you want to chat to the players at your table that is fine. Charm, flatter, even seduce players on your left. If you are able to induce eve a bit of sympathy towards you, it may be worth money to you later. Don’t be nice to your right-hand opponent or his right-hand opponent. You’re after them. You want their chips; all their chips……. There is nothing more agonising than watching a more inexperienced player giving away chips and you miss out on the action. You will notice in poker, as you become more experienced in the game that your position is as important in the games as the cards that you receive. It impacts your decisions and your strategy, and ultimately play a big role in your winning or losing the game!
